Two years after its release, and I can honestly say that album is one of the greatest things I've ever heard, and like most things I listen to, have ended up appreciating it and taking notice far later than I should have. I'm addicted, and it is unquestioningly deserving of all the praise it has received:
"Hands down, there is no doubt whatsoever that this is the best this year, and one of the best albums released in the past decade. Taking death metal, grind, hardcore, progressive rock, technical stuff along the lines of Dream Theater, ambience, jazz and a good chunk of Pink Floyd and various other rock bands, putting them all in a big blender and then create a coherent and enjoyable entity... it should be impossible. But, BTBAM have managed to do just that. Transcending more genres than should be allowed, the outcome is one that deserves platinum sales, Grammy nominations, #1 spots on Best-lists and the influential status of many of the artists whom the band has been inspired by." - UG.com
"Between The Buried And Me have evolved into a progressive band in the truest sense of the word, an alchemic group who concoct innovative, multi-genre fusions rather than a metal outfit with experimental pretensions. During the closing track "White Walls," Rogers chants the prescient epitaph, "We will be remembered for this." Not only will metal/hardcore fans remember Colors, they might be still struggling decades down the line to fully comprehend its brilliance." - Alternative Press
"Don’t wait for this band to appear on your local rock station; don’t even wait for it to see a video on Headbanger’s Ball, because these guys are too much for the airwaves to handle. The power of this record can‘t be felt by checking out a few songs on Myspace. Sorry folks, this is an album that you actually have to buy to fully appreciate. At least for me, listening to it in MP3 format takes away from the album as a whole. BTBAM’s ability to transition effortlessly from track to track makes this a landmark for the world of heavy metal. It’s bits and pieces of things you’ve heard, but it’s like nothing that ever came before and nothing that you’ll ever hear again. The only thing that’s left to wonder is what the hell are they going to do next? The message is clear: BTBAM is here to stay! This album is a piece of heavy metal history. Album of the Year!" - Sputnikmusic.com
"A true marvel, this challenging but ultimately highly rewarding album is an example of a young band just discovering what it’s capable of. At the rate they’re going, the modern metal pantheon awaits." - popmatters.com
"Greatest CD ever made by humans." - iTunes (LOL!)
Ending of White Walls, my favorite moment of Colors, the epic finale to the entire album:
Random stupidness while recording Colors:
The always spectacular Paul Waggoner doing what he does best ("Selkies" solo, off of 2004's Alaska):
